We are now in May, and the first full season at the greenhouse in Frövi is nearing its end. Since August 2024, the greenhouse has been producing and delivering tomatoes every week to Swedish retailers. Since October, it has been the only Swedish supplier of tomatoes, clearly demonstrating its value – not least during the coldest periods.
The season has brought many valuable learnings and ongoing optimisations, including upskilling of staff to ensure optimal plant care and growth. The insights gained will be of great value in the coming season.
Alongside operational improvements, we have since November 2024 been working on a new hybrid model that enables both external operators and in-house management. This flexibility is an important part of the fund’s long-term strategy. It allows us to ensure continuity, even in cases where an external operator is unable or unwilling to continue after a season.
In early spring 2025, we faced exactly such a situation – one we had prepared for, but initially only expected to implement in future greenhouses. We maintained a close and constructive dialogue with the external operator and hoped for a solution for the next season, but ultimately this was not possible. The transition to in-house management therefore became the natural solution, and we have already secured the necessary expertise by appointing an operator owned by RegEnergy Frövi AB.
The majority of the current locally employed staff are expected to continue under the new structure. Many dedicated employees at the greenhouse are looking forward to the next season, helping us to preserve and build on the valuable experience gained during the first season.
The current season will conclude as planned at the end of May, when all plants will be removed. In June, the greenhouse will be emptied and cleaned, with scheduled maintenance and adjustments carried out. The new season will begin during the summer, allowing us once again to deliver fresh, Swedish-grown tomatoes.
